At Goshen Valley, we believe that strong families build strong communities. Our mission extends beyond providing care for children in foster care—we are committed to offering preventative services that help families stay together and thrive. Through counseling, parent education, life skills, concrete supports, and more, we empower families to overcome challenges before they escalate to foster care intervention.
The Power of Prevention
Many families face circumstances that put them at risk of separation, including financial hardship, mental health struggles, and lack of parenting support. Preventative services address these challenges early, reducing the number of children who enter the foster care system.
Our Key Preventative Services
1. Counseling Services
Mental health is a critical component of family stability. Goshen Valley provides individual and family counseling, helping parents and children navigate stress, trauma, and behavioral challenges. By equipping families with emotional resilience and coping strategies, we create stronger home environments.
2. Parent Education
Parenting is rewarding but challenging. Our workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions cover topics such as child development, positive discipline, and communication skills. These resources empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to provide a nurturing home.
3. Substance Abuse Support
Substance abuse can strain family relationships and hinder stability. Goshen Valley offers support services that include assessments, referrals, and recovery resources for individuals and families impacted by addiction. By addressing substance use with compassion and care, we help families take steps toward healing and long-term recovery.
4. Community Partnerships
Collaboration strengthens our impact. By working with local organizations, we connect families to additional resources, such as job training programs, childcare support, and healthcare services.
Success Story
One standout success story involves a young client whose life changed significantly through her work with her therapist. Before therapy, she struggled with behavior issues and had difficulty connecting with her family. After consistent sessions, she began helping at home, bonding with her family, and showing a new interest in school. She enrolled in a career track class, joined an honors course and a school club, and began helping with tech for the school theater.
Her parent shared, “I am so happy to see her reaching out, exploring, and trying to shape the world around her in a positive way.” These changes, the family says, are all thanks to the support she received through therapy—proof of the powerful, preventative impact of our program.
