How to Apply For the Tax Credit

What Is the Qualified Foster Child Donation Credit?

The Fostering Success Act (FSA) allows Georgia taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state income taxes to certified foster care organizations like Goshen Valley—at no net cost to you.

This dollar-for-dollar tax credit means that instead of paying those dollars to the state, you can invest them directly into strengthening families, supporting foster youth, and creating brighter futures right here in Georgia.

How much can I donate?

Before July 1, 2025, individuals can donate up to $2,500, and households can donate up to $5,000. After July 1, 2025, there is no limit to individual donation amounts, until the $20 Million cap (increasing to $30 Million in 2026) for the tax credit has been reached in Georgia. Businesses can donate up to 10% of their state tax liability throughout the year.

How It Works:

  1. Apply for approval from the Georgia Department of Revenue (takes less than 5 minutes).

  2. Make your contribution to Goshen Valley once approved.

  3. Claim your credit on your Georgia income tax return.

100% credit = every dollar you give comes back as a credit on your state taxes.

Note: These are general examples, not tax advice. Please consult your tax professional.

Why a Tax Credit Is Better Than a Deduction

Example
Traditional Tax Deduction
Georgia Tax Credit
Contribution $2,500 $2,500
Tax Benefit Reduces taxable income Directly reduces state tax owed
Out-of-Pocket Cost ~$1,625 (after savings) $0 — fully credited

A tax deduction lowers your taxable income.
A tax credit lowers your tax bill.

With the Foster Care Tax Credit, every dollar you contribute to Goshen Valley is credited back on your state taxes — at no additional cost to you.
