Georgia Foster Care Tax Credit Explained

Redirect Your Georgia State Taxes to Support Foster Youth

Did you know that you can choose where a portion of your Georgia state tax dollars will be utilized?

Through Georgia’s Fostering Success Act (FSA), Georgia taxpayers can receive a dollar-for-dollar state income tax credit by contributing to qualified organizations that support young adults aging out of foster care. Instead of sending those tax dollars to the state, you can invest them directly in programs that help foster youth build stable, successful futures.

Goshen Valley is honored to be one of the approved organizations participating in this program. Contributions made through the Fostering Success Act help provide housing, life skills training, education support, employment assistance, and other critical resources for young adults transitioning from foster care to independence through our Goshen New Beginnings program.

Applications for the 2026 tax year are now open. Currently, there is no cap on the amount an individual or household can contribute and receive as a tax credit. However, the program is available on a first-come, first-served basis until the statewide allocation is exhausted, making early participation important.

Participating is simple:

  1. Apply for approval from the Georgia Department of Revenue (takes less than 5 minutes).
  1. Make your contribution to Goshen Valley once approved.
  1. Claim your credit on your Georgia income tax return.
